This study compared traditional lecture versus a computer-based cognitive science-based approach in training 2nd year medical students to perform low back pain differential diagnosis with integrated osteopathic diagnoses and findings. Research subjects were tested on diagnostic capabilities and outcomes were compared. Students’ opinion and feedback was assessed through a computer-based questionnaire. Although the two groups performed equally with respect to overall mean and osteopathic diagnoses, the treatment group performed better on difficult questions. Eighty percent of student attitudes were positive toward computer-based learning and its utility in uniquely osteopathic concepts. The internship practicum report explores current research on the plausibility of incorporating technology based on guided inquiry into K-12 classrooms to increase student science achievement. Part of the practicum report is browser-based software designed for teaching an ecosystems unit and includes the materials for use in a guided inquiry classroom. Can browser-based science instruction designed along a guided inquiry approach increase student achievement in science education and be quantified when compared to didactic classroom methods? Purpose: Demonstrate patient education as a viable option for improving patient adherence. Hypothesis: Patients information about their treatments. This knowledge about specific study treatments allows the patient to be more familiar with administering treatment, thus leading to greater treatment adherence. Design: A presentation over the absorption and distribution of a sublingual medication and the importance of taking this medication properly for the subject to view. After viewing the presentation, the subject completed a short subjective survey. A survey regarding the subject’s adherence was completed by the study coordinator. Results: The subject and study coordinator provided positive feedback and despite the lack of participants, this protocol was shown as a feasible method of patient education.
