Abstract

The Marion E. Coy, D.O. Collection consists of papers collected by Dr. Coy while he was the President of the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine from 1972-1975 and as a Professor of Osteopathic Philosophy, Principles, and Practice until his retirement in 1983.

Finding Aid for The Marion E. Coy, D.O. Collection
Marion E. Coy served as the first D.O. president of the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine from 1972 to 1975. While he was president, the college changed from a private medical school to a state institution, becoming a part of the North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas) system. From 1975 until his retirement in 1983, he taught Osteopathic Philosophy, Principles and Practice. In 1981, he was awarded TCOM?s highest honor, the TCOM Founders Medal and became the college?s first professor emeritus in 1982. He was a former president of the American Osteopathic Association and the American Association of Osteopathic Examiners. Dr. Coy was a 1938 graduate of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. He practiced Family Medicine and Anesthesiology in Jackson, Tennessee before moving to Fort Worth, Texas in 1972.
